Reflections on an Incredible Moment

This year, I had the profound honor and privilege of being part of Black Pride for the third time, working alongside the dedicated team at Terrence Higgins Trust to spread vital information about PrEP. It was a deeply inspiring experience that touched my heart and reaffirmed my unwavering belief in the power of community, resilience, and activism.
Throughout the event, I was fortunate to be interviewed by several channels and NGOs who asked me what Black Pride means to me and how it impacts our society.
For me, Black Pride is much more than a celebration — it’s a declaration of our existence, our strength, and our right to be seen and heard. It’s a space to honor our roots, celebrate our identities, and stand united against oppression, fascism, racism, and all forms of prejudice and disrespect.

Being a person of colour, an expat, and someone living far from my family and native roots makes this support network even more vital. It’s deeply important to have these spaces and communities around me — places where I can find hope, strength, and encouragement. Knowing that I can be part of a movement that uplifts, supports, and fights back gives me resilience and inspiration. Contributing to this movement, and being helped by it in return, restores my faith that positive change is possible. It reminds me that I am not alone in this journey.
Over two decades of resilience, love, and unity within our Black, brown, and queer communities have shown us how powerful we truly are. UK Black Pride is a testament to our ongoing fight for justice, equality, and visibility — amplifying the voices of those who have been marginalized for too long. Every year, we celebrate our achievements and push forward, raising awareness about critical issues like trans rights and the ongoing fight against anti-Black racism.
Working with Terrence Higgins Trust to promote PrEP awareness was a deeply meaningful part of this journey. We aimed to educate, inform, and empower our communities about HIV prevention — a tool that can save lives and reduce stigma. Seeing so many eager to learn, question, and take action reaffirms that knowledge is power. It proves that together, we can make a difference.
As someone who has been living in the UK for many years, I truly believe that to live and thrive in a new place, you must be able to love and be loved. And here I would like to say thank you to all my friends who support me and allowed me to be part of their lives. Without love, support, and open hearts, building a meaningful life feels impossible. And so, beyond the activism and advocacy, what keeps me going—what allows me to dream of a better future—is knowing that I belong to a community that loves, fights, and supports each other.
Black Pride is more than a celebration — it's a movement rooted in resilience, hope, and collective strength. It reminds us that our voices matter, our stories matter, and our ongoing struggle for justice and equality is vital.
I am incredibly proud to be part of this movement. I am grateful for every opportunity to stand under the banners of love, respect, and solidarity.
To everyone who participated, volunteered, or simply took the time to learn — thank you. Your presence, your voices, your support make a difference.
Let us continue standing together, educating and advocating for our communities’ rights, health, and dignity. The journey toward equality, health justice, and human rights is ongoing, and I am proud to be part of it every step of the way.
Solidarity always
